Fabrication Engineering Assistant

Rotech Fabrication, one of Aberdeen’s leading steel fabrication firms, is looking for an Engineering Assistant. This will be a very varied role, with good potential for progression. You will be working with the proposals and production team, creating material take-offs from drawings, producing steel profile drawings, and assisting with purchasing. You will be communicating with the shop floor to ensure that requirements and specifications are met

Key tasks:

  • Prepare material take-offs and Bills Of Material from production drawings.
  • Create steel profile drawings in 2D CAD.
  • Assist the proposals team with preparation of quotations, documentation, and purchasing as required.
  • Ensure that H&S practices are always adhered to.

Key skills/experience:

  • Ability to read pipework and structural steel drawings and to take off a Bill of Quantities (training can be provided).
  • Experience in producing 2D CAD drawings.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and a commitment to quality.

Subsea Excavation Team Leader

Due to the growth of our subsea excavation business Rotech is seeking new offshore Team Leaders and Trainee Team Leaders.

You will be responsible for delivering successful offshore excavation operations, liaising directly with the on-board client rep, and typically managing a team of five technicians to ensure the reliable operation and safe launch and recovery of the equipment.

Your projects will typically be in European waters but may be worldwide. Duty rotas are variable, so flexibility is essential. Typical excavation equipment spreads include a hydraulic power unit and hydraulic spooler on deck, and hydraulically driven subsea jet pumps. These are world-leading tools used for the excavation of subsea trenches for cables and pipes, and for the burial or de-burial of other subsea structures.

Key skills:

  • Sound technical skills, with experience of working with hydraulics and diesel-driven systems, preferably offshore.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • A calm and confident approach to problem solving in high-pressure situations.
  • A can-do attitude with a determination to get the job done successfully.
  • A professional approach to dealing with clients and managing your team.
  • An uncompromising adherence to health and safety practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the mobilisation, operation, and de-mobilisation of the excavation equipment.
  • Operating the excavation equipment to achieve clients’ burial or de-burial specifications.
  • Managing a team of five technicians to ensure equipment is maintained, deployed, and operated correctly.
  • Liaising directly with the offshore client rep and with Rotech head office.
  • Keeping and dispatching accurate daily logs of activities.
  • Organising all aspects of Rotech’s offshore operation.
  • Attending HAZID, HIRA and other client meetings pre and post project as required.

This position carries a top salary package and excellent off-shore bonus day rates.

Full Time Administrator

Due to the recent growth of our business, Rotech Subsea Ltd is seeking a full time Administrator to join our Aberdeen base. Previous admin experience is preferred but not essential, particularly in the areas of logistics, travel, QHSE, marketing and offshore operations. The successful applicant will be well organised, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Rotech Subsea is a fast-paced, ever changing environment, so enthusiasm, flexibility, and good team working are essential.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Structural Steel and Pipework Estimator & Buyer

Rotech Fabrication, one of Aberdeen’s leading steel fabrication firms, is looking for an experienced Estimator and Buyer. You will be working with the team generating quotes, obtaining best value when seeking prices from suppliers, and developing the supply chain. You will also be communicating with the shop floor to ensure the client’s requirements and specifications are interpreted correctly.

You must be able to work in the Aberdeen area and have good written and oral communication and IT skills. Preferably you will have experience of working in a similar role.

Key tasks:

  • Prepare steel fabrication quotes based on client drawings.
  • Ensure design and project requirements and specifications are adhered to and interpreted correctly.
  • Develop relationships with clients and obtain feedback for quotes to help develop a good understanding of the market.
  • Ensure that any changes to the original scope of works are logged and communicated with the client, and that costs are tracked, agreed and invoiced according to the contract specifics.
  • Manage material procurement, ensuring costs are kept in budget and deliveries are within timescales to allow client delivery dates to be met.
  • Develop supplier relationships.
  • Negotiate prices.
  • Carry out work in accordance with our procedures set out by ISO 9001.
  • Liaise with client’s engineers, the shop floor and our QA/QC dept.
  • Attend client meetings including pre lets, program meetings, commercial & final account meetings.
  • Ensure that H&S practices are always adhered to.

Key skills/experience:

  • Ability to read pipework and structural steel drawings and to take off Bills of Quantity for pricing purposes.
  • Experience in fabricated pipework, structural steelwork, staircases, walkways, and general fabrication for the offshore industry.
  • Experience in estimating projects up to £500k in value.
  • Ability to plan, control and report on work programs.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and a commitment to quality.

  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding - a manual process using argon or helium, a non-consumable electrode and consumable wire
  • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding - a semi-automatic process using argon and/or helium (sometimes referred to as metal active gas (MAG) welding when carbon dioxide is used in the shielding gas mixture)
